Tobermory

An island whisky from the Tobermory distillery on the Isle of Mull. A tasty sweet dram with a touch of peat. On the nose it's a classic island whisky with hints of brine and some light peat smoke. If you keep going you'll get the sweeter aromas of pear and melon. The initial taste is lovely and sweet with flavours of cream and vanilla. The peat is there but by no means the main player. There's a lovely warmth to the after taste, with the sweetness hanging around and joined by warming spices and pepper. A whisky from a well established distillery that doesn't disappoint. One worth a trying if you've been drinking whisky for a while and fancy something a bit more challenging.

SMOS P11 - An Orkney 11 Year Old

Perry, Honeysuckle, Blackcurrant, Grapes

An Orkney Distillery

A special bottling of An Oakey Islands highland whisky. Aged in Oloroso sherry casks for 11 years. It's a very clean whisky and for its ABV of 48%, it doesn't have as much of a nip as other whiskies around the same strength. Initial taste is very clean and sweet with flavours of pears and grapes. There are hints of spice but mostly it's reminiscent of summer fruits and pear cider. One you could drink in the garden in the sun shine or round the fire on a winters day.

Old Pulteney 15

Honey, Caramel, Vanilla, Salt

Old Pulteney

An ex bourbon and sherry cask from the north east of Scotland. A coastal whisky with a mouth feel and flavour similar to honey. Sweet and warming, soft fruits up front such as apples and pears. The after taste is warm and floral, the warmth lingers but isn't overwhelming, this fades until you're left with a flavour of cinnamon. The 15 Year Old Pulteney is a big step up from the 12 and well worth a try.

Kilchoman Sanaig

Honey, Peat, Salted Caramel, Cloves

Kilchoman

A sherry cask with a powerful peat punch at the start. This gives way to the sweet spices behind it. Well worth trying if you're a peat monster or even if you're not. Some peat can make a whisky taste quite dry, not in this case, this one is bursting with juices. The after taste leaves you with a dark treacle and tobacco flavour which isn't overwhelming and really quite pleasant.

Auchentoshan Three Wood

Cinnamon, Lemon, Ginger, Blackcurrant, Cocoa

Auchentoshan

A really good non age statement whisky from Auchentoshan. It would make a very good introductory scotch for anyone that enjoys American bourbon due to its strong bourbon characteristics and being triple distilled making for a scotch that's very easy to drink. On the nose it has some lovely baked fruit notes with apples and currents. The smell is very similar to the flavour profile. It starts with lots of dark fruit with a hint of cocoa powder. The currant flavours linger as the spices of cinnamon and ginger come forward. The finish is sweet with the blackcurrant flavour lingering at the back of the mouth.

Rampur Asava

Orange Peel, Cloves, Cinnamon, Pear, Parma Violets

Rampur

The Asana is matured in ex bourbon and cabernet casks giving it flavours packed full of fruits and spices. With lots of orange zest and pear, it's a very impressive whisky to come out of India. It's a lovely warming dram with hints of cloves and cinnamon. The finish is good with a lingering sweet floral notes with hints of apple. It's a very interesting whisky with a lot to it and well worth picking up if you have the chance. The mix of ex bourbon and cabernet make a complex, flavourful whisky that pleasant and complex.

Deanston 12 Year Old

Spices, Sweet, Herbaceous, Cloves

Deanston

Part of Deanston's core range the 12 year old gives a very interesting experience. Aged the full 12 years in bourbon casks it has honey and citrus on the nose, with a floral finish that's reminiscent of cress. It has a rich depth of flavour with a spicy sweet taste and a herbaceous finish. There is a lovely mild heat that lingers on the tongue long after you swallow. The spicy sweetness builds as you work your way through the dram with the herbaceousness moving back and a lovely clove flavour coming through.

Jura Bourbon Cask

Nutty, Honey, Cinnamon

Jura

One of Jura's younger whiskies in their signature offering, it can often be found on offer at your local supermarket. Sweet and floral, it's an ok entry level whisky with a price that would be difficult to beat. As a non age statement whisky, it can smell and taste very young if you don't let it sit in the glass for a minute and open up with a couple of drops of water. With the sour edge taken off it has sweet nutty notes with cream and honey. It's an ok whisky but can come across quite sour.

Penderyn Peated Port Wood (Small Batch)

Orange Peel, Tangy, Apples, Baked Fuits, Honey

Penderyn

A beautifully fruity whisky from Penderyn and probably our favourite of their current offering. It a punchy one with a high ABV so really needs a drop of water to be enjoyed but it's very worth while when you do. It's a lovely and complex mixture of berries, apples and honey. It's very lightly peated, to the point that unless you're looking for it you'll probably miss it. The finish is lovely and warm with a lasting juicy sweetness.

Cotswolds Signature

Vanilla, Red Fruits, Caramel

Cotswolds

While the Cotswolds are a fair distance from the more familiar highlands, lowlands, and isles, their signature whisky is certainly worthy of its place in the whisky world. It is a light and comfortable dram, but packed with sweet flavours and warmth. Not the most complex, perhaps, but very very drinkable.

Bushmills 10

Floral, Malty, Sweet, Vanilla

Bushmills

A sweet floral Irish whisk(e)y with lovely flavours. A good entry level dram if you're looking to get into whisky and with its price point it's very accessible. The sweetness is very light and malty, making it perfect for a base for your own creations. It's not one you're going to showoff to your friends but you won't have your friends complaining when you share it with them either.

Oban 14

Sweet, Complex, Lemons, Barley

Oban

A great costal whisky and one which all contributors agree is one of our top whiskies to drink. Sweet and complex it's one that'll change from dram to dram. Sometimes it'll surprise you with a mild peat, other times it'll be a have sweet citrus notes. But it's always a pleasure and make it onto our shelves often.

Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair

Sweet, Grapes, Red Berries, Ginger

Bunnahabhain

A lovely whisky for the price with a great variety of flavours. Quite young it manages quite well to restrain the heat and uses it to enhance the flavour of ginger and red berries. Open it up to really get at the flavours but not too far as you can easily go too far and lose it. At the price an easy one to recommend.

Bunnahabhain 12 (Cask Strength)

Sweet, Sherry, Sultanas, Raisins

A whisky packed full of flavour. One of the most sherry filled whiskies we've had to pleasure of trying. As a cask strength whisky so you'll want to open this one up to get the most out of it. We have enjoyed it neat but it can be very punchy until you get used to it, at which point it has a butterscotch quality. It's sweet and juicy with a buttery mouth feel. If you like your sherry casks this one is definitely one to try.

Ardbeg 10

Toffee, Sea Salt, Wood Smoke, Peat

The entry level whisky from Ardbeg, but don't let that fool you into thinking its one to be overlooked. This whisky sets a fantastic benchmark for everything else from Ardbeg. Ardbeg 10 has a fantastic level of complexity and a real mix of flavours. Starting out with an initial sweetness, the flavour builds into an incredible intense smoky, peaty punch. All while managing to never loose that initial sweetness. This flavour profile is Ardbeg's signature, and gets refined and built upon by others in their range. It is this signature taste that makes Ardbeg 10 so popular with whisky enthusiasts around the world.

Port Charlotte 10

Bbq, Wood Smoke, Peat, Medicinal, Brown Sugar

The Port Charlotte 10 is a lovely whisky. It stacks well against the Ardbeg 10 with slightly less sweetness and more of a savoury BBQ flavour. For those that also like more of a Laphroaig 10 profile than the deep earthy sweetness of the Ardbeg, this one sits nicely in-between the two.

Penderyn Myth

Vanilla, White Fruites, Cream

Penderyn

Penderyn's entry level whisky, simple and sweet with lots of vanilla notes. While it doesn't have a lot going on it's a very easy one to drink and is unoffensive. Not one you'll want to show off to your friends but could be a good one for a person new to whiskies that is looking for something to start with.

Isle of Raasay Single Malt

Mild Peat, Salt, Toffee, Citrus, Green Apple

Isle of Raasay

A small-batch lightly peated single malt that is something very special, coming from a very young distillery on the small Isle of Raasay. It is rich and complex, bringing flavours of the sea alongside the richness typical of peated whiskies. From its unique fossil-impressed bottle to its rich flavour, it's an impressive offering.

Arran 10

Honey, White Fruites, Cream, Herbaceous

Arran

A whisky that has won quite a few awards, it's definitely complex. Having tried it on multiple occasions it can sometimes come across sweet and creamy with soft white fruits and honeysuckle, others it can be quite herbaceous with a bitter finish. One to try but can be quite divisive.

Ardbeg Corryvreckan

Peat, Salt, Seaweed, Caramel

Ardbeg

Part of Ardbeg's core range a punchy peaty dram. Really appreciates a few drops of water to open it up at which point is a great example of the Ardbeg family with notes of salt, pepper, sea weed and caramel. Oh and of course a face full of peat.
